Travelling time to the Kosi Forest Lodge takes 5.5 hours from Durban and 3.5 hours from Richards Bay and is accessible by 4×4 only. The lodge offers 4×4 transfers twice daily from Manguzi at an additional charge.

With untold biodiversity and an opportunity to experience close encounters with the untouched African wilderness, this land offers you the chance to rediscover nature in this ancient, indescribable land and all its mystic wonder.

The Kosi Nature Reserve has a number of wonders you can enjoy from the water world of lakes, raffia forests and the only fruit-eating vulture in the world. You can completely embrace the peace and tranquillity of the wilderness by relaxing under the shade of the forest and feeling the sand between your toes.

Accommodation at Kosi Forest Lodge

There are two different rooms to choose from at Kosi Forest Lodge; the six Forest Rooms and the two Family Rooms. Each room offers total privacy and is situated within the beautiful indigenous forest of the Nature Reserve.

The rooms are made from thatch roofs,tarpaulin and wood to give you a tropical experience. You can feel completely connected to the wild outdoors while being in a safe and comfortable room with your significant other or the whole family.

The rooms have their own private decks decorated with beautiful outdoor furniture so you can overlook the forest. The undisputed highlight of the rooms however, are the heavenly bathrooms that literally open up to the beautiful night skies of Africa.

All Forest Rooms come equipped with double or twin beds, a private deck, safe, ceiling fan, an outdoor en-suite bathroom with a shower and bath, tea and coffee-making facilities, limited electricity, and mosquito nets.

The Family Rooms come with two bedrooms, allowing you to easily accommodate your children. The rooms are fitted with an en-suite bathroom with a shower and basin and a common outdoor bathroom with a shower and bath, a private deck, safe, ceiling fan, tea and coffee-making facilities, limited electricity, and mosquito nets.

The main lodge has a lounge, dining room and bar area that extend into a large wooden deck that is covered by the shade of a large, beautiful Zulu Podberry Tree. It is here that you can enjoy delicious and filling meals together.Most meals are served alfresco on the shaded deck or sheltered beneath the large Albizia trees.

Free Wi-Fi is available in the main building of the lodge;there is also limited cell phone coverage available. You can utilise a laundry service at an additional cost.

Kosi Forest Lodge is a honeymooner’s paradise. The lodge provides complimentary treats such as a sparkling bottle of wine, private dinner and a romantic turndown on the night of your arrival. There are a number of packages you can choose from so you can have an even more magical stay with your loved one.

There are a number of fun and interesting things to explore and experience. Activities to enjoy include taking a walk in the forest, spotting some of their abundant birdlife, visiting the traditional fish traps, turtle tracking, taking boat trips, snorkelling, fishing, canoeing, and visiting the Kosi Mouth and Tembe Elephant Park.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important. 

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table. 

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
