There are three self-catering cottages to choose from at Vleidam Guest Farm, each one uniquely decorated and providing views of the picturesque Swartland area. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, allowing you to have a relaxing experience during your stay.

Cottage One can sleep up to five people in two spacious bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed while the second bedroom has three single beds. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a shower and a second bathroom has a luxurious bath.

This cottage comes equipped with a fully-equipped kitchen with a fireplace inside the kitchen as well as outdoor braai facilities, a living room with a TV with DStv, a fan, heater, garden and swimming pool.

The second Cottage can sleep up to five people in two spacious bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed while the second bedroom has one double bed and a single bed. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and a second bathroom has a shower.

This cottage comes equipped with a fully-equipped kitchen with a fireplace inside the kitchen as well as outdoor braai facilities, a living room with a TV with DStv, a fan, heater, garden and swimming pool.

Cottage Three is the Honeymoon Suite of the lot, providing ample privacy and beautiful views of the surroundings. The cottage has a bedroom with a Queen-sized bed, a modern bathroom with a luxurious bath and shower, fully-equipped kitchen, living room and fireplace.

The cottage comes equipped with an outdoor braai and air-conditioning. Extra beds can be placed in the living room upon request should you want the room for a family.

All cottages at Vleidam Guest Farm are wheelchair and family-friendly, so nobody has to worry about being excluded. The farm provides secure, off-street parking so you don’t have to worry about the safety of your vehicle.

There are a wide range of activities to enjoy in the area, from wine tasting to hiking trips. Other activities include water-sports, golf, fishing, and a trip to the Wheat Industry Museum; one of the two agricultural tours in the world.

You can also interact with the various farm animals at Vleidam and have your kids join in and feed the animals and collect fresh eggs in the mornings.

Owners John and Nikki Loxton frequently interact with their guests, bringing freshly baked farm bread, taking them out for farm rides in their plaasbakkie and learning about the history of the farm and district.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important. 

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table. 

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
