Just off the N2, between the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve and the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park, lies Emdoneni Lodge with Cheetah Project and Spa, a truly amazing place to visit.
This region is one of my favourite parts of South Africa and I have many wonderful childhood memories of visiting Lake St Lucia and the many game reserves in the area.
There is so much to do and experience.
Emdoneni Lodge with Cheetah Project and Spa is one of the places that must be visited and is also a great base from which to explore the area.
This multi-award winning lodge, owned by Louis and Cecillie Nel, has grown from seven rooms to 50 rooms over the past 21 years. Emdoneni’s facilities are more akin to a hotel, but it is the family-owned management style and obvious passion for their business that makes this feel more like an intimate lodge.
“We want to make sure that your stay is more than what you expected!” said the owners.
Accommodation comes in the form of chalets and rondavels as well as a honeymoon suite. All are elegantly decorated and fitted with fresh and crisp linen, en-suite bathrooms and Wi-Fi is free of charge.
The accommodation can be booked on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast or Bed and Breakfast basis. At the main lodge, you will find a well-stocked bar, comfortable lounge, crystal clear swimming pool surrounded by loungers and a spa.
Their spa is a huge attraction and features two treatment rooms, including a double treatment room with en-suite shower. The spa menu is specially developed to cater for everyone’s needs focusing on relaxation massage treatments.
The Emdoneni Lodge with Cheetah Project and Spa is an amazing attraction on its own.
Don’t miss out on the up-close-and-personal tour and learn more about South Africa’s endangered wild cat species. The main emphasis of the cat project is to release the offspring of the animals back into the wild.
In the 22 years that the Emdoneni Lodge with Cheetah Project and Spa has been in operation, they have successfully rehabilitated and released Servals, Caracals, African Wildcats and Cheetahs back into the wild. In total, one Cheetah (soon to be two), 19 Servals (soon to be 21), 12 Caracals and seven African Wildcats are roaming free due to the commitment of the owners and staff. They do keep breeding pairs (ambassador animals) and those animals that cannot be released, at the project are for educational purposes.
Next time you are considering staying in the wonderful part of the country, be sure to book your stay at Emdoneni Lodge with Cheetah Project and Spa. Call 035 562 7000 or email office@emdonenilodge.com to make a reservation.
