Oakhurst Hotel, George, Western Cape
I recently visited the beautiful Garden Route for business and found myself needing a place to stay. That is when I discovered the 4-Star Oakhurst Hotel, which is conveniently situated in the heart of George.
This stylish boutique hotel offers leisure or business travellers the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding towns or, in my case, meet with clients in Oudtshoorn, Mossel Bay, Wilderness and Knysna.
Arriving at the hotel in the evening, I was given a friendly welcome by their helpful and friendly staff. I checked in and my bag was carried to my room.
Oakhurst Hotel, which is a thatched, Cape-style, manor house, offers 25 designer-decorated rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms (either bath or walk-in shower), air-conditioning, king-size or twin beds, Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs with a selection of DSTV channels. They also have no-smoking and smoking rooms as well as a same-day laundry service available on request.
The hotel offers three room types; standard rooms, deluxe rooms and family rooms. The family rooms are equipped with either a double sleeper-couch or two single bunk beds. Most of these rooms face the picturesque Outeniqua Mountains.
Accommodation & facilities at Oakhurst Hotel
After unpacking, I headed down to the lounge where I relaxed in front of a large fireplace with a glass of wine from the ladies bar. While chatting to one of their regular guests, also a business executive, I found out that Oakhurst also has an intimate conference room available for small functions and workshops.
While there are plenty of activities in the surrounding area, there is also a swimming pool at the hotel where you can cool off and chill. This area is particularly attractive as it is surrounded by lush gardens with the Outeniqua Mountains in full view.
Oakhurst Hotel’s charming restaurant serves breakfasts, including a daily continental buffet breakfast that offers a wide selection of fresh fruits, yoghurts and cereals; lunches and dinners can also be served during weekdays. I chose to explore George’s restaurants.
Arriving back at the hotel, one of their security guards escorted me from their secure off-street parking area to the hotel’s reception. Back in my room, I had a cup of tea and a rusk from the complimentary coffee tray before calling it a day.
The next morning, I was served with a full English breakfast at the restaurant before I set out for a day of exploring the area.
I can highly recommend Oakhurst Hotel to anyone visiting or passing through the Garden Route. To make your reservation, call 044 874 7130 or visit www.oakhursthotel.co.za today.
