Accommodation at The River Club – Zambia

There are 11 spacious, private suites that you will find nestled within the tree line along the magnificent Zambezi River. From their elevated positions, each suite offers amazing views of the river and the Zambezi National Park and its wildlife on the opposite bank.

Each suite is named after Zambia’s historical individuals and is tastefully decorated with furniture made from Zambezi teak and beds swathed in walk-in mosquito nets.

Choose from seven split-level River Suites, which offer seclusion and unimpeded views of the mighty Zambezi. The suites come with sitting areas with full-length glass doors, which open onto the private balcony; empire King Bed or twin single beds with mosquito nets; as well as upstairs and downstairs bathrooms with a shower, basin and toilet.

Amenities include overhead fans, air-conditioning units, hotel-type safes, a hair-dryer, a mini-bar fridge and tea/coffee making facilities as well as back-up power.

Go a level up in their two Luxury River Suites. Aside from offering the amenities listed above, the suites have spacious open plan interiors featuring a living area, expansive yet secluded deck and private plunge pool.

For those travelling with kids, the Luxury Family River Suite can comfortably sleep up to five people. Tastefully decorated with furniture and fittings, the suite is a spacious and open plan unit with two semi-private, en-suite bedrooms.

Aside from the amenities listed above, one bedroom has a queen-double bed; the other has twin-beds (one extra single bed is available for a third child). There is a small sitting area located between the two bedrooms.

Families and romantics will also love the Princess Mary Suite, the private villa that can sleep up to six people. Upstairs, in the Master Double Suite, you will find a king-size bed wrapped by a walk-in mosquito net, and a private balcony facing the river. Downstairs, is a second, private bedroom with twin-single beds enveloped by a mosquito net, a lounge-come-living area, mini-bar and dining area.

Besides the standard amenities, there are two bathrooms (one is en-suite). Two additional single beds can be arranged in the downstairs living area. Guests may choose to dine privately in the suite or join other guests at the main lodge.

Facilities at The River Club

Guest facilities include beautiful gardens, an infinity pool, board games in the library, TV room, a tennis court, gym, a nature / running trail and the Summerhouse.

Dining is an experience at The River Club. There is plenty to do for families.

Activities in Livingstone

There are plenty of things to do around the lodge including evening sunset cruises, catch-and-release fishing, island picnic lunches or spa treatments. The Livingstone area also offers an amazing array of activities including game drives, canoe safaris, microlight flights, white-water rafting and helicopter flips.

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important. 

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table. 

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.
