Ocean View Hotel is a paradise by the sea

Ocean View Hotel

Tropical palm trees swaying in the gentle breeze, breath-taking sea views and the smell of sweet frangipani flowers drifting through the air, at Ocean View Hotel, you really will think you’ve been swept away to an exotic treasure island.

Situated on a private beach in Coffee Bay, on the infamously beautiful Wild Coast, the hotel is surrounded by beautiful green cliffs and the Indian Ocean. The highlight of this establishment is that it is right next to the beach, which is perfect for sea lovers, surfers and beach combers.

Ocean View hotel offers both adventure and relaxation for guests. For adrenalin junkies, there is a variety of daring activities to choose from – such as jumping from a sheer cliff into the sea, mountain biking or hiking on the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Popular activities for guests include walking to the geographical site known as the ‘Hole in the Wall’, diving, snorkelling, swimming, surfing and boogie boarding. There are also many excursions in the area such as horse riding, fishing, kayaking, bird watching and guided cultural tours.

For those, who are seeking a relaxing experience, there is a large swimming pool and a well-stocked beach bar in the resort’s gardens.

The hotel also offers outstanding facilities such as a dining room, two bars and a wellness spa. The dining room serves a delicious buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. Saturday evening is the hotel’s seafood extravaganza night where the local chefs prepare fresh oysters, butterfly prawns and whole-baked fish.

The dining room has an outdoor deck with a view of the sea. Guests can enjoy a sundowner while watching the sunset or eat dinner under the evening stars with the sounds of the lapping ocean. The beach bar serves cocktails to guests sitting at the pool and on the beach.

For ultimate relaxation, the ‘Sea Shells’ spa has trained therapists, who offer deep Swedish massages for muscle tension, hot stone and aromatherapy treatments, as well as reflexology and Indian head massages.

Ocean View also offers wedding and conference facilities. The conference centre can seat up to a hundred people and the hotel provides all the catering, including tea/coffee and lunch. Fun team building activities can be arranged as well as special overnight packages.

For couples, who dream about getting married on the beach with the Indian Ocean gently lapping beside them, then Ocean View is the perfect venue. The reception will take place on the hotel’s premises and all catering and accommodation will be provided for.

The hotel offers Sea View and Garden rooms. The Sea View rooms each have a deck with a table and chair for guests to sit at and watch the rising sun with their cup of coffee or to have a sundowner while watching the ebb and flow of the ocean tide.

The Garden rooms also have decks and a view of the sub-tropical gardens. In the Garden rooms, you have the choice of a double, twin or family unit.

All of the rooms are spacious, light and comfortably furnished with en-suite bathrooms. Each room has coffee and tea making facilities, DStv and ceiling fans.

The hotel is family-friendly, providing a jungle gym, trampoline, fun holiday activities and childminders, who can look after your kids, while you take some much deserved time to yourself.

Enjoy what Coffee Bay has to offer

If it’s your first time visiting Coffee Bay, I would highly recommend that you explore the neighbouring beaches and take a leisurely walk to the ‘Hole in the wall’ – also called ‘izi Khaleni’ by the locals, which means place of thunder, due to the sound that the waves make when they clap against the hollow sea wall.

The hotel was recently taken over by the Jemimas Hospitality team, who have plans to enhance the bare foot luxury experience with a host of new and exciting offers, including packaged tours, deep-sea fishing, kids club as well as an exciting beach club along with Paragliding, abseiling and 4×4 trails.

Honeymooners and couples can also enjoy a sundowner picnic prepared by the hotel chef, which consists of a picnic basket filled with savoury snacks, a selection of cheeses and beverages of your choice. The picnic is best enjoyed on a romantic, sundowner trip, sitting at the top of the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

With so many treasures on offer for individuals, families and romantic couples, Ocean View Hotel is truly a paradise by the sea.

About us

Actually, Home Food and Travel offers a lot more than just reviews of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.  We also visit great destinations, receive advice from interior designers and stop to smell the roses and taste the coffee.

Our team of journalists are seasoned travels and love visiting the myriad of exciting places around South Africa.  Whether it is off the beaten track or in the heart of the top attractions of the country, we’ll be there,

Home Food and Travel advice on finding the right accommodation

So what is the right accommodation?  Well more often than not, it’s your travel budget that dictates the type of accommodation that you choose.

Expensive is not always better.  Our team at Home Food and Travel will tell you that they have camped in areas with limited ablutions and had a wonderful holiday.  They have also spent a night in a five star hotel only to be disappointed because their expectations exceeded the experience.

The reason for your travels will also affect your choice.  A business trip requires different amenities to a beach holiday.

Our articles, reviews and experiences can certainly help you make your decision.

Restaurants with a good mix of service, food and ambiance

To my mind a great restaurant offers three things – excellent service, great food and a wonderful ambiance.  Of these, service is the most important.

No matter that the food is delicious and the setting delightful, poor service can ruin the occasion.  However, great service combined with mediocre meal and a plane jane restaurant can still be a pleasant night out.

We’ve eaten in restaurants that are really dirty but with incredible food and couldn’t help but give a rave review.  We’ve also hardly noticed what we ate because the setting was just amazing.

However, the best restaurants come with the best of service, food and ambiance.

Spas are the ultimate relaxation aid

How do you know when you have had a great spa experience?  The answer, of course, is when you doze off on the treatment table.

Well that’s our theory anyway.  It also doesn’t take a grand location with enormous facilities for a spa to be really good

A small, personal spa that is owner run can result in the best massage you have ever experienced.  However, the grand spas in five star hotels offer unsurpassed facilities in an environment that just makes the stress in your shoulders and neck melt away before you even finish checking in.

Adventure!

You don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy an exciting experience.  In fact, what are commonly termed adventure activities usually have incredibly high safety standards and unblemished safety records.

Ziplining, bungy jumping and shark cage diving are all very safe.  It’s just that our mind tells us we are craaazzzzyyyy to be doing this.

On the road to great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities

If you’re driving, be safe and make use of all the wonderful farm stalls that populate South Africa’s open roads.

If you overhear somebody asking a lot of questions or see someone taking photos of empty bedrooms chances are it’s one of our Home Food and Travel team members.

We’re out looking or those great places of accommodation, restaurants, spas and adventure activities.

See you on the road!
